Why You Must Take the Strong Way to Your Unique “Q”

You are living in a culture going off-road in so many ways. A pandemic that looked like it would mess up your life for weeks turned out to still be turning things upside down in your world over two years later. A world with whispers of unrest, nationally and globally, all of a sudden is protesting for freedom and fighting to the death for it.

You are still you. But how have you changed with all of the external unrest? Maybe you have become stuck. Maybe you have learned to swim so you don’t sink. Or maybe you are taking on the weight of the world on top of your over-burdened shoulders.

You still have choices. You cannot influence the entire world by what you do or do not do, but you can influence positively or negatively those that are in front of you right here and right now. In turn, they influence those in their sphere.

How can you be strong – and stay strong – in a world in crisis?

In a culture asking you to be all things to all the people, it's no wonder that you not only lose your way but also lose your ability to distinguish between what your strong yes and your strong no should be.

Maybe you have been saying yes to so much lately because you feel you should. You feel the world expects it of you. You feel like a coward if you say no. But the opposite is true.

The strong ones have learned the art of the healthy no.

If you are to increase your capacity and have the margin to respond when a crisis comes calling, you need to make decisions about your daily choices.

Below is a checklist of what to ask yourself the next time you are asked to rise up to meet the needs of those around you.

So often you get stuck doing what you are competent at – or even what you’re excellent at. Even if you do something really well, if you can teach someone else to do it, you should, so that you can move into your area of unique ability, where only you can be you, where only you can do the thing. This is a place that only you can fill. No one else.

When you see that you have something unique to offer to the world and step into that with confidence, others are able to see it in you, as well.

What will it take for you to delegate or gift your current responsibilities to someone else in order to pursue the space designed uniquely for you to fill?

This will create more margin for you to be able to respond to crisis situations – and to respond to important cultural moments with greater capacity.

Feel free to save this “MY Q” Chart image as a reminder to keep moving in the direction of your unique ability.

You will free up capacity for crisis moments that need all of your compassion.
